May 2022

Repeat Prescriptions - will now take a full 5 working days to process.  Please ensure your request is given to us either via email, NHS app or via website with at least a week's notice.  We apologise for the change in the policy however, due to the volume of requests and demand we feel this is the appropriate way moving forward to allow time for staff to process  your prescription.

People aged 75 and over, and people aged 12 and over who are immunosuppressed, are now eligible for a spring COVID-19 booster vaccine.
The NHS will contact eligible people to book their next vital jab.


March 2022 - Covid cases are rising and it is affecting our staff sickness levels including clinical and admin staff.  We are doing our best to maintain our services but some routine work maybe affected and clinics maybe cancelled and rescheduled - we apologise for this and are working hard to reduce the disruption as much as possible.

We advise you to follow the original advice of washing your hands, protecting yourself and others by being vaccinated and if you come into the surgery please ensure you have no symptoms and are wearing a face mask.

Flu Season 2021

 The majority of the flu clinics have now been done - if you still wish to have a flu jab please contact the surgery and we will add you to a list to book you in the next available opportunity.


 A Message from our Primary Care Team - System Pressures in Cornwall

All our health services are busy right now, especially our ambulance service and the emergency department team at Truro hospital.

 You can play your part in supporting us to care for people with serious and life-threatening illnesses.

 Did you know you know you can get help and advice by calling 111 or go online at 111.nhs.uk? You may not need to go and wait in our busy emergency department and could be directed to a minor injury unit which will be quicker and closer to home.

 Only dial 999 for an ambulance in a genuine, life-threatening emergency, for example:

      .  Chest pain / breathing difficulties / heart attack

  • Stroke
  • Severe bleeding
  • Severe allergic reactions
  • Severe burns or scalds
  • Serious head injuries
  • Major trauma such as a road traffic accident or a fall from height


If you have called for an ambulance, please do not ring again asking for a time of arrival. Only call again if:


  • The patient’s condition worsens
  • You no longer need our help


The call handlers must prioritise speaking to the most seriously injured and unwell patients.


If you don’t think it’s a serious or life-threatening emergency:


  • Call your own GP. Even if you are in Cornwall on holiday, you could get a phone or video consultation with your doctor at home.
  • Go online at 111.nhs.uk or call 111 to get expert advice and be signposted to where you can get the best and nearest care for your needs.
  • Ask a pharmacist for advice – they’re experts in treating minor health issues like colds, urinary infections, stomach upsets, aches and pains.

Welcome to Middleway Surgery

We are confident that our website will provide clear and concise help and give our patients the information they require in an easy and convenient format. It has been designed with the patient’s needs at the forefront of everything, from checking surgery times to letting us know what you think of us.

There is good access for the disabled to all of our consultation rooms. A designated parking bay is adjacent to the surgery entrance and the surgery has a ramp and wide doors to allow for wheelchair access.

eHealth Productivity and Innovation in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly

Middleway Surgery has partnered with PEP Health, a leading provider of patient experience insights in the UK, as part of a research project funding through the University of Plymouth EPIC programme. The project started in October 2021 and, running until October 2022, aims to create a dashboard that will allow health professionals in Cornwall to track changes in patient experience in both primary and secondary care. This will allow health service providers, including your GP practice, to better respond to patient’s needs and wishes.

The project team has collected publicly available online comments for every GP practice in Cornwall from a range of social media and NHS review sites. The next phase of the project is to trial the collection of patient feedback directly from patients themselves after their appointments through an online feedback form. The link to the form will be sent to patients in a text message the day after their appointment and takes 1 to 2 minutes to complete. All data collected is anonymous and will help show how patient experience is changing overtime.

Middleway Surgery is participating in the trial with other Cornish GP practices, including Launceston Medical Centre and Tamar Valley Health

There are a range of expected benefits from the programme. These include:

  • GPs will be able to see where they are excelling in providing patient experience and work with other practices to share best practices within their primary care network
  • GPs will gain insights into the drivers behind patient experience in their practices so that specific, targeted actions can be taken to improve it where necessary
  • The new Cornish integrated care system (ICS) will be able to better identify and share best practice across the whole ICS, helping the ICS prioritise resources
